On Saturday 12 November, the county’s historical society, the Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society, will hold a day-long conference on art and artists in Carmarthenshire. The venue will be the Halliwell Theatre, Trinity St David’s University, Carmarthen.
Topics will range from Carmarthen’s first professional artist and the history of its School of Art to artists born in the department and elsewhere who were inspired by it and its landscape. The keynote speaker will be Wales’ foremost art historian, Peter Lord, and there will be several speakers on individual artists.
The deadline to reserve a place is November 1st. Further details, including a downloadable booking form, will be available on the society’s website www.carmants.org.uk where more information can also be found about the society and how to become a member. There is a discounted booking fee for Society Members.
Membership will provide a free copy of the society’s long-standing publication The Carmarthenshire Antiquary and an extensive program of events throughout the year as well as a monthly online newsletter. Refunds will be given at the conference to new members who have paid the full reservation fee.
