How to Get Protector and Evolve Rhydon

The evolutionary elements of Pokemon Legends Arceus are notoriously hard to find. Unlike the main Pokemon games, there are no set locations for players to find upgradable items like the Water Stone, Razor Claw, and Questionable Disc. This makes it more difficult for players to use Pokemon that evolve using upgradable items, as it keeps them trapped in their second stage of evolution until the player can stumble upon the needed item.

Luckily, there are a handful of methods players can alternate between in order to obtain any of the upgradable items, including the Protector. Here’s how to find it and evolve Rhydon.

Where to find Rhydon in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Players must first find a Rhydon in the wild if they want to evolve their Rhydon into a Rhyperior. Rhydon can only be found in the Crown Highlandswhich is the fourth unlockable location in the game. There, players can find them in both the Celestica Trail and the Sacred Plaza.

While players cannot find or successfully catch a Rhydon, its pre-evolution, Rhyhorn, can be found in several areas and is relatively common in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Rhyhorn can be found both in the Crimson Bogs and Crown Highlands, located on the slopes of Bolderoll, Diamond Heath, Shrouded Ruins, Celestica Trail and Sacred Plaza. Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon at level 42. Players can use the Protector to evolve their Rhydon into Rhyperior.

Where to find Protector in Pokemon Legends Arceus

There are four methods to find the Protector in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Some take longer than others, but all will help players in their quest to find the Protector to evolve their Rhydon.

The first method is to use Ursalune. When searching for loot and hidden items while rolling over Ursaluna, the Protector is among the items players can dig up. Although rare, it is possible to find it with enough digging.

The second is to search for items in the Spatio-temporal distortions. The appearance of space-time distortions is somewhat random, but if a player stays in one location, such as the Cobalt Coastlands, for long enough, it’s likely that at least one will appear. Rare items, including upgradable items, are scattered on the Distortion floor, so there is a chance the player will come across a Protector.

The third is to purchase the Protector from Ginter’s Specials for 5000 Pokedollars. The upgradable item will be listed as “Heavy Armor” rather than “Protector”. If the Protector isn’t there when players check Ginter’s Shop, it will reset its inventory with every 20 Pokémon the player catches.

The fourth and last method is certainly the most effective for quickly finding a Protector. The scalable element can be purchased from Jubilife Village Trading Post for 1400 MP. Players can farm MP by collecting lost saddlebags all over the map.

How to Evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior

Upgradable items work like they would in any other Pokemon game, so it’s a simple process to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior. All players need to do is have the Protector in their inventory and Rhydon in their party.

Once this step is complete, they just need to click on the Protector in their inventory, and next to Rhydon it should be listed as a “compatible” upgradable item. Drag the Protector to Rhydon, which will trigger the evolution sequence, leaving players with a powerful and chunky Rhyperior.

Be warned, upgradable items are single-use, so after the player uses the Protector to evolve their Rhydon, the Protector will disappear from their inventory. If the player wishes to evolve another Rhydon after using their only Protector, they must follow the process to find one.
